A Promise Fulfilled

Author Unknown

Around the door they hovered,
Longing to see the inside.
Wondering what He was doing,
What He was trying to hide.

Hush, said one Angel,
I hear Him
I think that He's coming out!
Thank Goodness! said another
And they laughed as they fluttered about.

Inside the Holy of Holies,
The Lord took stock of His work,
And with a nod of sweet satisfaction,
He opened the door with a jerk.

Aha! He chuckled, I caught you!
As they scrambled closer to see.
Oh Lord, they chimed, We missed you!
And looked at Him questioningly.

In His arms He held a bundle,
All fresh and shiny and new,
And His face wore the gladdest expression,
Of a God who had seen a job through

I have a daughter down below,
Who lifted a prayer up to me.
And I hold in my hands the answer,
A reward for her trusting in me.

For a very long time she waited,
And I counted each tear that she cried,
I know there were times when her faith was weak,
But still in my words she relied.

I took extra time to make this,
Because I believe she deserves,
A sacred measure of blessing,
And a dose of my special reserves.

She asked me not for riches,
Or for success in life
She asked me not for glamour,
Or for release from strife.

Instead, she asked me simply,
For a little child to raise,
She promised to give it a life of love,
And teach it my name to praise.

So it is with all my love,
I created this darling one,
A gift to my child for believing in me,
And proof of a victory won.

So, my angels, He chuckled
Her mother is waiting on earth!
Pick up your harps and cymbals
And let us proclaim her birth!
